Prevenar 13: A vaccine against pneumococcal disease

Farewell to the worries pneumococcal infections. Now our children can be better protected against lung infections (meningitis, pneumonia …). The progress of science has replaced the former Prevenar 13. This new vaccine has not been significantly away from the old, but this time, with broader coverage.

Prevenar 13 vaccine

At 57 euros, Prevenar 13 is already available in pharmacies. It is an injectable solution containing portions of 13 different types of the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae. It is designed to protect children from six weeks to five years. The vaccine can also fight against acute otitis media.

Cons-no indication has been reported for children who have already been vaccinated with Prevenar, which have yet to receive further doses of Prevenar 13. Moreover, those who have already been fully vaccinated with Prevenar former still need a fourth injection of the new vaccine before age 2.

Reimbursement side, know that this vaccine is recommended strictly reimbursed up to 2 years. This age is extended to 5 years in children at risk, like those with immune deficiencies.
