Food allergies and your baby
Many parents are concerned about your child’s allergies to food. About 4 of every 100 children are allergic to certain foods. In most allergic children, it is best to avoid foods that cause allergic reaction.
What is food allergy?
When a person has a food allergy, the body reacts more like the food was harmful. The body fights the food substance that triggers the allergic reaction.
People can be allergic to any food. Although some people are allergic to food additives (such as food dyes and artificial sweeteners), natural foods cause most allergies. Almost all food allergies in children are caused by these foods (Source: AAFP)
- Cow’s milk
- Eggs
- Peanuts (groundnuts)
- Soy
- Wheat
- Tree nuts (like almonds, walnuts and cashew nuts)
- Fish
- Seafood (like lobster, shrimp and crabs)
