Contraception after childbirth
“The baby is here and then hop, we headed straight to contraception!” It is a widely held idea and found it funny but it is not. Katty Ardaens the gynecologist sees things differently. For her, the best time to contraception is by far the pregnancy. “Young mothers who were not breastfeeding will very quickly normal fertility” she says.
Biologically speaking, the first egg laying, that is to say, ovulation usually occurs 25 days after childbirth if not breastfeeding. Katty Ardaens even adds that “Recent studies have demonstrated the safety of the traditional low-dose pill on the quality of breastfeeding and the baby’s growth”.
