Use of fluoride for teeth in children
For over five decades, dentists recommend the use of fluoride for dental care for adults and especially children. Its regular use increases the resistance of enamel remineralization favors and has an important antibacterial action.
The benefits of fluoride are multiplied if applied in young children because their teeth are still in process of formation.
Fluoride can be administered systemically (in drops) or topically, such as mouthwash and toothpaste. During tooth formation systemic fluoride is incorporated into the crystalline structure of enamel and leads to the formation of fluorapatite and fluoride hydroxyapatite, which makes the enamel more resistant to demineralization.
